Independent Film Work

I love writing for the screen and working on indie film projects with my husband and friends in the local film community. My kids often get involved, too, since they've pretty much grown up on set. Here are a few of the projects I've worked on.

Book Trailer: Through the Veil

Dedra is a young violin prodigy who hates her life. But she has a secret--she can navigate a musical passageway through the veil between worlds. In the dimension of Ahwey, music is visible, painting vibrant colors in the air, and underlying every aspect of society.

She's happy there, until...

Deep End of the Pool

This film is a love letter and metaphoric memoir. Based on a true story, it's one man's symbolic journey through love, loss, and finding love again.

This film was an official selection of the Spokane Film Project's Goodbye to Summer Film Festival in 2019 and the Sandy Dennis Film Festival in 2020.

Recycled Family

Laura's domestic squabble over getting a dog for her girlfriend's daughter is cut short by dental surgery--and a disturbing gas-induced adventure.

We made this as part of the 50 Hour Film Competition and Festival. Requirements were a theme of human connection, inspiration from a local pottery artist, a shot of clasped hands, and a dog grooming facility as a location.

Childhood Memento

Cody arrives home to find the power out, his mother missing, and something...strange waiting for him. He calls in his Uncle Josh, but will help arrive too late?

This film was an official selection of the  2018 Northwest Horror Fest. I originally wrote the script for a play festival, then adapted it for film.

Seeds of Change

A family's life is forever changed by armed intruders making accusations of treason. What is the family hiding, and what price will they pay for it?

We made this as part of the 50 Hour Film Competition and Festival. Requirements were a theme of growth, inspiration from a local artist, seeds as a prop, and a skating rink as a location.

Fruit Therapy

An odd but well-meaning therapist leads this court-mandated session, attended by four people with...interesting stories about the crimes that landed them there, and strong opinions about the "talking fruit."

This quirky comedy won the 2018 Septi Award for best film at the 50 Hour Film Contest and Festival. It was 100% inspired by the required elements: "growth" as a theme, inspiration from a local artist, seeds as a prop, a skating rink as a location, and an Easter egg: every hand that was shown had to hold fruit.

Fruit Therapy was screened at the 2019 Spokane International Film Festival.

Tarot Reading

A woman facing a big decision seeks insight from a Tarot Reading by a close friend. She gets more than she bargains for, though, when the cards uncover a lot more than she expected.

Tarot Reading was an official selection of the 2018 Made in Spokane Film Festival.

Grandpa's Loose Ends

A father and son find suspicious things in grandpa's vehicle and start to wonder: was he tying up loose ends before he died? And should they cover up his crime?

We had 30 days to made this for the First Night Film Festival. We had to create a fake product for product placement and include a time-compressing montage.

Also required were a chunk of dialogue and a 30-second commercial half-way through. We put the dialogue in our commercial...in a creative way. That's what you see here in black and white.

This film won both Judges' Choice and Audience Choice Awards.

Creature Seekers

Go behind the scenes of an extreme cryptozoology show trying to find bigfoot, and botching the search at every turn--much to the dismay of the expert who's along for a strange and bumpy ride.

This one received the Audience Choice Award at Klink's Summer Shorts Film Festival. It had to be made in 48 hours.

I Brought Cake

Things are not as they seem when employees are forced to work over the weekend to make up for one woman's mistake.

We made this in a weekend for the 50 Hour Slam. The theme was inspired by a local baker and the required elements were a creepy video and the exterior of a local building.

Christmas with Art

Rigby's meeting his girlfriend's family for the first time. As if it's not scary enough, she's filled him in on a strange detail that has him especially terrified to meet her father.

We had 48 hours to make this for the First Night Film Festival and had to include glitter, someone petting a live animal, a Beatles song title, and the theme, "Once Upon a Night, Art Comes to Life."
